How The Inspiration for
This Campaign Started
My name is Susan LaBarre and I have always wanted to make a difference in the world during my lifetime.
Some friends and I went to see Al Gore's global warming movie, An
Inconvenient Truth, and we were blown away by the urgency of our
global warming crisis. Until I saw that movie, I just didn't see that
the major impact would occur during my grandchildren's lifetime.
How can we not do something for our kids?
After the movie we went to lunch and tried to figure out why intelligent people like us aren't moved to action. And whammo—it hit me! We don't experience global warming as personal. It's like some distant event happening on the other side of the world — to people we'll never meet — generations from now.
But it's THIS generation! It's our families!
And the idea was born to create a website campaign that inspires people
to see global warming as a personal family issue.
The heart-wrenching thought of harm to your precious family is a clear call
to action. As parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles we must demand
that our politicians
and corporate leaders create alternative energy
and business policies that will protect our kids' future.
And teens?
It's your generation who's inheriting this disaster. This is YOUR future we've
trashed. You'd better demand we fix it.
Take it personally. Take it VERY personally.
The Store
As a creative idea person working in marketing, graphics, and website design, I've been operating an online gallery of unique, inspirational gifts—so this campaign is just a natural extension of what I already do. I created the general product designs as templates with the idea of dropping your family photos into them. But some of the photos I've used are so beautiful, I think many people will want to buy certain products just as they are.
Copyrights
I am thrilled to report that no photo copyrights were violated during the making of my designs. A note of deep gratitude goes out to MorgueFile for their awesome repository of photos free for both personal and commercial use. The site has some magnificent photos contributed by professional and amateur photographers from around the world.
The copyrights for all my finished designs, logos, and this website are owned by my design studio, Dappled Path. Pricing
I've kept the prices on products reasonable because I don't think it's
fair to capitalize on people's fears. Mostly, you're paying the cost
of printing a custom design onto a single item. It costs a bit more,
but it's a cool technology and you get a one-of-a-kind product all your
own.
I'm donating a portion of our profits to organizations that
are creating alternatives and solutions to avert the climate change
crisis.
